I meet James outside his parents apartment and we drive over to the Coony's Hotel. As always, I drive, James drinks. Only this time he's taking it easy. I like him better when he's sober. We check out the pub but it's dead and decide to head further into town, but on our way out the door we bump into an old friend...

Steph Heard and a small group of girls are exiting at the same time. Being the socialite she is, Steph grabs us both with a giant "hello".

The three of us chat briefly while her friends stand by and I suddenly recognise one of them. It's her again. The girl who has given me evil eyes on both of the occasions I've encountered her before, is standing right in front of me.

I try not to stare, but smile politely while James and Steph continue to chat and she seems to do the same in return. Now I'm unsure if she's recognised me last time. I guess that was more than a year ago, so maybe not?

I want to say something to her but I can't think of anything to say that won't result as it has the past.

Come on, think...

Say hi... No that's lame.

"Ok we'll have a good night" Steph wraps up.

"Yeah you too". James says.

Damn it. The window has closed.

"Ah yeah see ya Steph." I utter as they move off.

I take one last glimpse at the girl I really want to talk to. She politely smiles and waves as they walk off. I think she knows James.

James and I exit the pub and cross the street.

"Was that Melissa Zulli", I ask. I knew it was. Ben Hutchins had talked about her so many times her name was imprinted on my mind and her face was unforgettable.

"Sure was". James replies.

"She's very good looking. Is she still going out with that Kieran guy?" I ask. Hutcho was always whining jealously about the guy she went out with.

"No they broke up. He's gay now." James says casually.

I am flabbergasted. "Gay? Are you serious? How could a guy go from her to being gay?"

"I don't know, but he is."

I am lost for words.

Today was going to be a big day. In all 22 years of my life so far, I've had one serious girlfriend and a couple of dates with girls who either I wasn't really interested in them, or they weren't real

"3 day rule." Mitch exclaimed, "Don't call her for 3 days." That was two days ago. I had to agree with him though. I didn't want to come across too keen and scare her away early. I'm sure I'll manage
